Dental bonding is a great way to quickly and affordably repair small imperfections on teeth. Bonding could be considered a simplified version of a veneer or a crown. While it can’t withstand the kind of abuse that those solutions can, bonding works well in a variety of situations, and Dr. Huot can discuss your situation to see if bonding is a good solution for your needs.
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is the process of bonding tooth-colored resin to the teeth to mask imperfections. In addition to providing cosmetic relief, bonding can be used to fill cavities. Once the resin has been bonded to the tooth, it is basically permanent. This doesn’t mean that you’ll never have to have it touched up or replaced. It just means that it is very unlikely to fall off or break away.
How Does Dr. Huot perform dental bonding?
First, Dr. Huot will assess the shade, and specific type of our materials needed to accomplish your goals. The surface of the tooth may be roughened or shaped as needed. He will then apply several layers to the tooth to clean, etch, desensitize, prime, and bond the composite material to the tooth. An intense light is used to harden and cure the material. The restoration is then shaped and polished to a lustrous finish.
Bonding restorations can be a great solution for many dental issues, however it is rarely intended to be a lifelong fix. Depending on your oral habits, food choices, and overall health may affect the bonding.
